Brake Fluid Duties

In addition to operating hydraulic components, brake fluid also serves as a lubricant for pistons, cylinders, seals, and valves within the brake system. It must not corrode metal parts or deteriorate rubber. It must not freeze in extremely cold weather. It must also withstand the tremendous heat generated by the friction of the brakes yet not boil. If it boils, the bubbles created will reduce brake effectiveness and cause soft brakes since the air will absorb foot pressure instead of transmitting it.
